COI Chooses Taqua 7000s to Support Growing Voice Services      

According to a news release, the first T7000 is deployed as "a full-featured next-generation Class 5, operating with centralized call control at the edge of COI's access network." While the second T700 purchased is being used as an intelligent gateway at a different location, where the T700 provides the PSTN interconnection and advanced features and call control are managed by a remote softswitch. With the T7000, which scales from 40 to 40,000 subscribers in a single 17" X 24" shelf, carriers are empowered by the ability to 'pay as they grow' as well as provide voice services from initial deployment. The T7000 is also designed for both centralized or distributed deployments and the platform can simultaneously support legacy interface types including GR303, PRI, CAS, POTS and an integrated SS7 gateway capability for ISUP/TCAP as well as supports IP interfaces like SIP, MGCP and NCS. "Flexibility, reliability and functionality were key in our decision making process," said Steve Vogelmeier, president of COI. "With the switch-on-a-card architecture for both IP and TDM services, the T7000 can deliver centralized or distributed call control on a DS0, trunk group or system level.

EU Official: IP is Personal      

Scharr reportedly told a European Parliament hearing on online data protection that when someone is identified by an IP, or Internet protocol, address "then it has to be regarded as personal data." Though search engines like Google do not hold the same opinion. Google has been insisting an IP address merely identifies the location of a computer, not who the individual user is. AP states that Scharr acknowledged that IP addresses for a computer may not always be personal or linked to an individual, as some computers in Internet cafes or offices are used by several people.
